Israel Folau - should he have been signed?

    Catalan Dragons have signed Israel Folau on a one-year contract:

    Folau had been sacked following his post on Instagram that hell awaits “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers” and others, which he said represented his sincerely held religious beliefs and that he did not intend to offend anyone. Folau said "he wanted all Australians to know that he does not condone discrimination of any kind against any person on the grounds of their sexuality and that he shares Rugby Australia’s commitment to inclusiveness and diversity,”

    Folau claimed he was "sacked for practising religion" when his contract was ripped up by Rugby Australia, and went on to imply that the bushfires were God's punishment for legalising same-sex marriage and abortion.

    Should Catalan Dragons have signed someone with such controversial views?

    No. He also sounds like a right hypocrite when he says he shares Rugby Australia’s commitment to inclusiveness and diversity but comes out with all the other comments.

    Yes he should not be denied employment on the basis of thought crime. Potentially everybody holds views that are "controversial" to somebody else.

    Level 99 shithousery from Wigan:
    Wigan Warriors have responded to Catalans' capture of controversial Israel Folau by making their match against the team Pride Day. ... Folau was sacked for writing a 'warning' to 'drunks, homosexuals and adulterers' among others that they were going to hell.

    Well done Wigan. What a clown.

    Oh dear.

    Whilst his views are 100% barking, has he actually broken any laws? If not, surely he should be allowed to ply his trade?

    Wigan didn't respond to that signing - they had already decided to make that match 'Pride Day' BEFORE Folau was signed by Catalan Dragons;

    News of the deal came shortly after an announcement by Wigan Warriors that their match against Catalans at the DW Stadium on 22 March will be "Pride Day".
