Is there ANY Supply work in ......

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by Jice, Jan 18, 2012.

  1. ....the Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster & Sheffield Areas PLEASE??
Can't get a permanent post (few Jobs in my Subject) and wondering if I should bother to register with supply.
Which if any, Supply Agencies, are offering supply work??

I don't know about the current situation, but P & K Education were EXCELLENT when I was registered with them a few years back. They found way more work for me than other agencies did and they actually take the time to get to know their teachers a bit so they're nice people to work for. Their website is http://www.pkeducation.co.uk/. Good luck!

  4. Thanks for responding. I have worked for them about 7 years ago but things have changed DRASTICALLY since then, according to this website/Supply Teachers forum. It seems things have got dire in the last couple of years.

There used to be a fair bit of supply work in Doncaster and Barnsley a couple of years ago. Try contacting some schools and ask them who their preferred supply agency is - it might give you a few pointers as to who is best to sign up with.
    Good luck!

  6. Thanks, great idea to ask the schools. They might even tell me if they are not using supply any more etc. Had not thought to contact them direct.

  7. Come on, there must be someone out there working in this area, as a supply teacher, or is it dead out there??
Respondents so far refer to years ago, and we all know things have changed very quickly, in the last 1-2 years in teaching/supply.
Please let me know if I can expect to get work or NOT, thanks. There are hardly any FULL TIME jobs going, never mind supply work!!

I think the answer may lie in the lack of responses?
Different area I know , but it is definitely in my LA. Was going that way before, but in an area where people tend to stay on in post till retirement and then do 'odd bits' of supply when they have, I think 'casual supply' can be considered 'dead'. I've been on the LA authority list for many years, well known in many schools and have yet to receive a phone call for this school year.

  9. This is my area; last term was the worst in 6 years, this term is starting to pick up again. What is your subject? I am primary.I know several of the schools which have given me plenty of work in the past are "trying to cover internally". And we all know what that means. Rotherham has an LEA primary supply agency but they sent me the application form over a week ago and it hasn't arrived yet.I am registered with an agency in Sheffield, name beginning with R and would advise you not to waste your time there. Will let you know whether or not situation picks up, it usually does in January so try not to be too depressed. Good luck.

  10. Sheffield is dire dire dire at the moment. People signed up with several agencies have had 4 half days this academic year. I am on the Derbyshire side of Sheffield and have signed up with and excellent small supply agency in Derbyshire. There are 3 members of staff (the guy who runs it, a primary specialist and a secondary specialist) so no faffing around being passed from pillar to post - I just ring the guy up directly, he listens to my preferences and availabilty. Would definitely recommend them if you are able to get to the Chesterfield area!
