Is there a procedure for Head and Deputy being out of school?

Discussion in 'Headteachers' started by katie_hh, Aug 10, 2011.

  1. Should the UPS1+TLR member of the SMT be 'left in charge' or the UPS3 teacher or is there no set policy?

It's the head's decision in every school.

  5. As MM said, it's the headteacher's decision. When we were both out the most experienced teacher used to step up but she then demanded a TLR for this role (which was twice a year at most!!). So we opened it up to all staff to let us know if they'd be prepared to step in, those in the same union as the afore mentioned experienced teacher all said they would for a TLR and eventually we gave it to a teacher 3 years out of college (but as a mature student) who was willing to do it for experience alone. She has been fantastic too!
