Is 'Lying through your teeth' an inappropriate or offensive idiomatic phrase?

  2. I think that this is very over dramatic. if a teacher said it to my child I would not be offended nor would I think twice if I had heard another teacher use the phrase. Haven't schools and teachers got more important things to be focusing on than a turn of phrase?!
