This thread is for Brexiteers - are you supporting Andrew Roberts? Apparently 94% of Daily Express readers (who voted) do... And what do you think Australia, Canada and New Zealand will say to this proposal? How will you persuade them to agree?

CANZUK: after Brexit, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Britain can unite as a pillar of Western civilisation

The right kind of foreigners (if we ignore the indigenous, as we have tended to do through history)

White, English speaking (yeah yeah, I know, Canada) and with the Queen as head of state.

It would seem odd to make your closest trading partners those who are geographically furthest from you.

They've had plenty of time, since September 2016, to think about the idea.

A federal alliance of foreign states with free movement of people? Perhaps we should have a referendum about it:cool:

I guess that back in the early 70s the choice was "Common Market" after Degaulle stopped saying "non" or retired or whatever, or the Commonwealth and its members (including Aus NZ and Canada?). An opposing cartel to "Europe" could then have been set up, and it probably made sense at the time in some ways, but good ol' Ted(another useless Tory) went with Europe, which for a jingoistic "Britain first/best" country caused all sorts of problems, and many more lies small, big and huge. Then the right wing decided they could make a shedload of money by destroying our economy further, creating massive import tariffs, destroying up the NHS, allowing even more tax havens and welcoming Russian mafia oligarchs, and through the likes of Farage, Cummings, Boris, and Gove here we are on the doorstep to freedom; freedom to be impoverished, freedom to die, freedom to lose jobs, freedom to put prices up massively, freedom to vote any sort of legislation through parliament that only benefits Tories and cronies, freedom to pay higher taxes unless you are filthy rich and pay none anyway and get rewarded with a peerage, freedom to allow companies like Amazon to take over everything driving everyone else out of business, freedom to destroy the high street, and all the other "freedoms" that aren't. So its too late, and they can't supply what we need anyway.

I like Andrew Adonis' riposte to the CANZUK Tweet:

    Andrew Adonis@Andrew_Adonis
"I have a better idea. Why not form a superpower alliance with much more powerful countries which are our neighbours & share our values, & with whom we conduct half our trade? How about calling it ‘The European Union’?"

    Replying to:

    CANZUK News@CANZUKnews

‘"Boris told to form 'superpower' alliance with Australia, Canada and New Zealand.’
A huge 94% of the 8,712 people who voted backed the idea from historian @aroberts_andrew of a "superpower" alliance between the four nations.” #CANZUKhttps://express.co.uk/news/uk/1321171/brexit-news-boris-johnson-canzuk-union-uk-canada-australia-new-zealand-eu-uk-trade-talks"

This is a ridiculous topic. It implies what is not the case for trade post EU.

We will continue trading with the EU., and have the freedom to trade with other nations as well. What is there not to like about that?
