The purpose of assessment is to accurately measure someone's ability in a determined area.

The difference between a 4 and a 5 or a B and a C is so small as to be affected by a vast range of variables. You cannot attribute that difference to any single variable. Yet upon that difference stands a headteacher's job, a teacher's pay rise, a child's life chances.

It's not so much the frequency, which is very high, but the high stakes nature of the testing which is incongruous to the variability of the accuracy of the assessment.

I thought we'd sort of all agreed on this one, even the really right-wingers...?

Of course there's too much high-stakes testing.

Your bear poo is monopolising my Alert page. I can recommend you to a very good Jungian analyst, if you'd like. Or a zoo veterinarian.
