I'm a PGCE student who has an interview next week for history teacher job. The brief is 'A turning point in history' 50 mins to yr 7. Any ideas and words of wisdom greatly appreciated! Thank you

You probably want to devise some framework which will allow the year 7s who you are teaching to assess why your chosen event constitutes a turning point.

In order to do this, you need to be aware of the ability level of students.

I recently did something similar and got students to consider before, during and after i.e.

    • What the given factor was like before the time
    • What happened to the given factor during the period of change
    • What happened to the given factor after the turning point
I haven’t seen your brief, but if it feels like they’re asking you to talk about historical significance then you could use one of the criterium to assess this such as GREAT

    • Groundbreaking: had anything like it happened before
    • Remembered
    • Effected lots of people and things?
    • Affected the future
    • Terrifying: how big as the upheaval it caused etc
    Hope this helps
