Interview advice please?

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by gaw821, Mar 13, 2011.

  1. I have an interview for the GTP next week for maths, and a PGCE interview the week after.

Having already had 3 rejections, I want to get it right this time so that maybe, by some miracle, I am able to choose!

I have only had one interview so far, and I felt that it went perfectly (obviously not...) so I would love some tips of how to get it from a good interview to a great interview!

I have to prepare a 5 minute starter for a year 7 class, without using ICT, as well as a writing task, maths test and individual interview (for the GTP).

Are there any questions which caught some people out? Any ideas for the starter?

Any tips/advice would be hugely appreciated!

    The best GTP candidates
-reflect on their classroom experience and relate the answers to what they have experienced/observed
-have a clear understanding of the teacher role- what is involved in being a teacher around the school, outside of the school gates
-clearly show a strong interest in communicating the love of their subject knowledge to pupils and have an insight into the difficulties in communicating with angsty teenagers - Watch Jamie's Dream School and do the opposite to Starkey

  4. Hiya,

Do you know what kind of written tasks to expect in a primary GTP interview?

It varies with provider but most are based on a standard -read an article-then comment or precis. Other instances include writing about what makes a good lesson planning how to use a resource or reflecting upon your experience. In all cases the purpose is for you to demonstrate cklear communication using standard English including spelling and punctuation.
