International/ Private sector CVs- Advice please??

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by loraineplayfair, Feb 18, 2011.

  1. Hi,
I am an English teacher working in education in Scotland. As is the case with a majority of 'new' teachers in Scotland just now I have been working as a temporary/supply teacher since completing my probation. I consider myself very fortunate to have been working as a teacher more often than not these last couple of years. However, I want to work in a permanent position so I've decided to put aside my idealistic sensibilities and be more proactive! I'd like to apply to independent schools both in Britain and abroad but I am inexperienced in writing a traditional 'Teaching CV' as most positions advertised in Scotland have standardised local authority online application forms and do not deal with CVs. Can anyone offer me some guidance on essential content, layout, covering letter etc.?

CVs are not used in maintained schools in England - how we wish there was a standard application form, though! They are all so different, it drives JobSeekers bonkers.
Some Independent schools still ask for CVs, but not all. If you google "teaching cv" you'll get loads of ideas.
For the application letter, read the Shortlisting clickables inside the Welcome thread. That will give you tips.
    Best wishes
