I have about 100 Year 6 pupils (spread amongst 4 teachers/workshops coming in for 1 hour Tuesday week. Any ideas on how to wow them?

    Thanks in anticipation.

  2. working in teams - build highest tower out of newspaper and two meters of tape...chaos but fun
  3. On the structures theme, you could show them about triangulation and how it is a strong shape, then get them to build the tallest structure they can for the rest of the lesson using a large packet of cheap spaghetti fixed together with pieces of marshmallow. This can be done in groups and the winner is the largest free standing structure. We did this for a similar group. No cutting or glue and you can pick up your resources from your local shop!
  4. You could also cut 'key' strands of spaghetti afterwards until the structure fails and get them to think about why it happened. This links back to the start and triangulation.

There's some more pointers on Marshmallow/Spaghetti challenge and some other 'recipes' in a free online 'cookbook' from Holland, including Toothbrush Challenge and Yo-Yo challenge... we did a summary blog here, if that helps?
