    Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you all know that later this month the current forums will be migrated to an upgraded platform.

The latest version of the platform includes the following features:
    • Enhanced mobile-friendly style and faster loading pages
    • Wider selection of emojis and reactions
    • New look member profile preview panel
    • URL unfurling
    • Content bookmarking and sharing
    • BB code and rich text editing for comments
    • Member stats – giving you more statistics about notable members with the most posts, new members
    • Quick thread with prompts
    • Extra navigation tabs
    i. What’s new - these navigation tabs can take content from all sources including media items
ii. Find threads - unanswered threads

The contents of the current forum, including watched threads, private conversations, members’ statuses etc, will be copied over to the new platform – provided there are no unforeseen technical issues.

This is an upgrade of the software we use now so the forums will have some of the functionality that you are familiar with as well as new features to play with.

The migration is due to happen on Wednesday 25th September so there will be no access to the forums from 1am to 8am – however as with any migration/server update, this is subject to change depending on how well the process goes.

It’s probably best to stop posting before 10pm on Tuesday 24th September to ensure that any new messages/private conversations are not lost during the migration.

There will also be a new design on the forums, particularly to make navigation on mobile a lot easier for members and visitors to find the information they need and to take part in conversations.

The new forum will be a ‘work in progress’ and further tweaks may be needed to improve navigation and the look and feel of the site.

I will remind you nearer the time about the migration date and when the forums will be switched off. In the meantime, please feel free to spread the word about the plans, particularly if you come across a member who is unaware of what is going to happen in a couple of weeks.

This will be the tale of Peggy Sue all over again. New shoes than locked into a marriage.

It'll probably be all ok because it turns out it was Betty Lou who got the shoes.

I won't even pretend to know what 'URL unfurling' is

I hope the new site is accessible to those of us with poor vision.

Is this the opportunity for Opinion to return?

They do seem to lose a swathe of regular posters during upgrades.

I'm always cautious about change, which is why I posed that question in a cryptic manner.

The organisation I am employed by has been undergoing lots of changes over the past couple of years, the most idiotic suggestion so far, being to dispense with local contractors and to use large contractors to manage things like gardening and cleaning.

Everyone who works at estate level realises this will be a recipe for disaster, so I asked myself whyever it would appeal to senior management and concluded that the only reason it would be attractive, is that it would reduce the number of invoices coming in each month and thereby enable the number of staff in accounts to be cut.

In this vein, and with relevance to this thread, a reduction in the number of forums presents the opportunity to reduce the number of moderators required to police them.

My advice, @TES_Rosaline, would be to fight any effort to let Personal go the same way as Opinion and fight for the return of Opinion. In fact, I think we could also do with an Opinion Plus forum to cope with the anticipated, extra misery of Brexit, if and when it eventually happens.

And dining. We need to integrate dining into personal.

    Unfurling? That's a sailing term isn't it?

Re your vision @grumbleweed. I one of the updates I remember we had to fiddle around with the settings / brightness as it was a sort of light green, if I remember correctly. And there is the option to change the size of the page.

I found it when my mousepad was playing up with a mind of it's own and reduced the size of the font instead of scrolling down.
I think this is part of your 'platform' as opposed to the tes site ,Grr won't screensot Anyway three little dots on the RH side on mne , which then come up with a menu, and choose
Zoom -- 100% + to change the size.
And you can change the lightness / darkness in your main computer settings.

Thanks Lara. I have text set to "hoooge" it's more the white backgrounds, I prefer it where you can change the colour like in the olden days. I often work with a green or blue background but don't want to do this blanket for everything. Much better if I can adjust each site to suit me.

Perhaps we can alert a mod to this, in case there's an option to set the colour, as I remember we had with one of the upgrades @TES_Rosaline ?
