How are those people who switched to IGCSE in September finding it? Is anyone else thinking of switching in light of the linear exams we will be doing from September? Or do we stick with these blasted controlled assessments!!! The question of switching has been raised by Leadership Team this week so I am now trying to find which is the better option. Manc did you attend the WJEC IGCSE inset day? If so, any use?

Anyone able to answer this please. Manc, where are you?!!!!!!!!

  3. Hi
Am also thinking of switching and trying to get some response from people who've done it. Have you made a decision?

  4. Hi
Switched to IGCSE for current Y10 - doing Cambridge Eng Lang course but stayed with AQA for GCSE Lit. Going well. They do 3 pieces of coursework which they have enjoyed and can re-draft. No Lang controlled assessments. Going for Nov entry for lower ability groups so that they get two stabs at it if necessary then top sets will do it in June. (We are state school so doing 0522 syllabus.)

We're doing AQA IGCSE Lang & Lit. Really enjoying it so far. 1 piece of coursework for each spec so plenty of time and includes research skills which are lacking in other specs.

Thanks for replies. Can I put Y10 to do one board, WJEC, AQA or whatever AND also enter them for IGCSE. Only thinking of doing this with some selected top students just to see how it goes. Or can I only enter students for one exam board in at any one time?

You can mix it up as you like. I'm sure you're already aware of the need to consider that there'd be no 'crossover' pieces to reduce workload for the learners, but then again I'm not sure if this exists in any specs now.

  8. At last! Someone who is doing this 0522 syllabus. I am a non specialist teaching it to a Y11 in a PRU with only a couple of months to get it right. Any help with course work assignments would be great. [IMG]

  9. I do the 0522 syllabus. What info do you need?

  10. Some working titles would be good. I've tweaked a Romoe and Juliet assignment with her from the AQA she did in November and got a "D" grade. I am aiming for a "C" or above. Is this acceptable? Also working on a "diary" type assignment. Am I on the right track?
    Thank you sooo much.

  11. Yeah we are also just doing IGCSE in Language, and have stuck to AQA for Lit. Working out really well!!!

  12. Please note that you can only do Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSEs if you are wanting your results to count in the league tables in the same way as GCSES.

DfE have decided that as pre-existing qualifications, CIE and Edexcel have a proven track-record so can be trusted, whereas AQA and WJEC - the rank outsiders(!) - need to prove themselves.

AQA and WJEC IGCSE English can still count as one of the other 5 GCSEs (as equivalents) but not as English.

    Confused? I was!

  13. Hello - so to confirm, you can enter for AQA GCSE Lang and iGCSE 0522 - effectively double entering?
