If I go back part time do I need to pay back maternity pay?

You have to have gone back and worked the equivalent of 13 full-time weeks (if you were paid ML as a full-timer). If you leave the post before that amount of service has been undertaken, you will owe them part of the ML.
You can, of course, count holiday weeks in the calculation.
If you 'return to work' officially on 0.5 on the first day of the summer holidays, you will have served 3 of the 13 f/t weeks over the 6 week holiday period, needing 20 more 0.5 weeks of work to protect the ML money received. That would take you to around the 18th Jan 2013 (earlier if the return to work were in term-time in June or July)
