Ideas for very English songs, dances or poems needed please

Discussion in 'Primary' started by burneshunter, Apr 24, 2012.

  1. You could have them sing English folksongs such as Greensleeves or The British Grenadiers, or what about On Ilkey Moor Baht'At? Kids seem to like that one, the tune is easy and quick to learn (and rousing to sing) , and they could do actions rather than a full-on dance. I also like Blaydon Races although you will need to check the words for suitability!!! There are so many bouncy, fun folk songs that it seems a waste of opportunity to sing the slow soppy ones.
If you really wanted them to do a dance, what about something like The Lambeth Walk?
As for poems that typify England, suitable for Y1, hmm....I love Home Thoughts From Abroad, but that might be a bit tricky for Y1 children.
