Ideas for Handling Data Enquiry

Discussion in 'Primary' started by Teacher1974, Jun 10, 2011.

  1. My Y4s loved investigating who had the biggest feet in the school - it led to some great discussions about whether to go by shoe size, length of foot from toe to heel, width of foot etc. I can't see why Y6 couldn't do something similar (although preferable not on a hot day!!!)

Why not allow them to define their own surveys? This would certainly allow the independence you're looking for.
Some will go for the ever mind-numbing "favourite crisp flavour/pet/pizza topping" but with some assistance many will choose far more interesting ones than we adults ever dream up!
Tip - if surveys feature preferences, ban "other" as an option. You generally get quite boring data as a result, otherwise.
