ICT - Cross curricular or specialist?

Discussion in 'Computing and ICT' started by apmcarthur, Jan 11, 2012.

  1. Noone knows what the future holds but I have read many debates about the future of ICT and I'd love to get your opinion on this...

I've heard many arguments that the ICT teachers days are numbered as ICT will become a subject taught through all other subjects.... As it becomes cross curricular there will be no need for the ICT teacher

I've heard many people believe this is ridiculous and practically impossible - ICT will always need specialist staff and cross curricular won't support the subject

What side of the fence are you on?

I was never sure but after Goves announcement today it seems ICT (or computer science) being delivered cross-curricular seems even less likely. If the new ICT syllabus is to be more challenging then surely there will be more need for specialist ICT teachers?

Also - He hinted at computer science joining the e-bac... So all students would have to do computer science in the future?

I'd love to hear your thoughts?
