ICT courses at ks4

  1. We will complete OCR old spec with year 10 and have nothing left for them in year 11 can somebody suggest what could we do with them in year 11? What will be useful for the students? Also in which direction are you going under the new changes in the curriculum from 2014?

We are jumping onto the Cambridge Nationals (as long as they get approved) may be worth looking at something like Creative IMedia if you want to do some slightly more fun stuff if pupisl already have a GCSE through Nationals (though they will not count in tables as you can not count IMedia and Nationals but at least a more fun use of software)

  4. Why can't you count both? OCR have told me that you can as they come from different 'books' (Nationals for one and Vocational for another)

  5. BTEcs Vs Nationals which is better and why? please help me to choose one!

  6. Thoughts:
    • BTEC (online) exam looks easier and better than the CNAT written paper
    • CNAT forces a board-set assignment for Unit 2 and possibly for other units; BTEC forces a "digital portfolio" which should be much better
    • BTEC is multimedia/computing while CNAT is still ICT based (mandatory unit forces "traditional" IT stuff, ie. Office)
    • You must do the spreadsheet/database unit if you go for "double" CNAT but you don't have to with BTEC
    • No "triple award" option
    • No compensation between units - you need to get D* in everything to get the D* overall
    • Many units focus on gathered content, making you say when you found every image, animation etc. (boring!)
