Exhibited this year for the first time at Cake International at the NEC. This is like the Chelsea Flower Show for cake makers.
And I got awarded a 'Merit'.....................like I'm over the bloody moon!
I entered the cupcake class as I love making intricate cupcakes, but rarely get to do so as they are expensive for customers. Had to make 6, all different, with a common theme.
I got great praise in my judges feedback.....'lovely approach to theme', 'great use of dusts and piping gel for detail' and the judges suggested I 'up my game' for next year!
Going to enter cupcakes again next year and a bigger cake.
Celebrating with a bottle of my fave pinot noir...................to say I had tears in my eyes is an understatement.
May mean not a lot to anyone else.....but this means the world to me. To be recognised by the industry's top judges at the top worldwide event.
    So, here's my little entry!

Thank you. Everything made by hand......mostly during England v New Zealand, so it's nothing short of a miracle they survived the stress and made it to NEC!!!

The irony here is, although decorations all made of sugar and so are edible, the cakes are inedible! In order to be stable enough for competition work they need to be baked weeks before hand and dried out. These were baked 2 week before decorating and dried out on top of the Aga.
CI is to showcase one's talents in sugar work so almost every exhibit is a dummy.
However, had Mr Belle annoyed me I could have thrown one at him and knocked him out!
I can bake really good edible cakes though!

I thought the blackberry one was my favourite. Then I looked properly at the toadstools and changed my mind. But actually, it's definitely the acorns. I love the subtlety.
When I look at it, maybe it's the walnut one.
    Or maybe the blackberry.
Well done for bl***y well using your retirement well!

I love the one with the acorns and I love the one with the toadstools...and I especially love the one with the autumn leaves...who am I kidding? I love them all! Well done B! Xxxx

Great cakes- even if they were 'inedible' Belle.
And as you rightly say, it is the 'recognition' which is the most important thing.
