I have been asked to be SENCo - SHOULD I?

Discussion in 'Special educational needs' started by regencyrob, Jun 8, 2011.

  1. I have been asked to be SENCo in the primary school where I work. We are 2 form entry with high proportion of SEN and 25 statements, for a range of issues.
What do you think this job will entail?

A lot of work + you will have to take the National senco award!
  3. Make sure you are given sufficient non-teaching time to carry out the duties adequately.

Sooo jealous - this is exactly what I am trying to get a job doing at the moment as I need to move areas. (Currently I run and teach in a SEN unit attached to mainstream). Unfortunately SENCO roles are few and far between or those that do come up are part time only :(
If you are interested in SEN then take it - but you really do need to have an interest and love of it in my opinion as it is a lot of work.
