I have a PGCE but no specialist subject.

  1. This may sound odd, but I have just completed my PGCE (PCET), but have no specialist subject.
I started on the course when my level 3 literacy was sufficient to be key skills tutor in adult and vocational education. Now our govt have set the standard at level 5 (thanks!) so I am looking to do another qualification. During my first year I worked with ESOL students which I enjoyed very much and this year have been delivering functional skills to teenage construction students. To say it has been challenging is an understatement, but also enjoyable. The problem is I am a single parent with a mortage and fast approaching the wrong side of forty, and I REALLY need a job! Am I qualified to teach anything now? I have advanced Food Hygiene and enquired to deliver Basic Food Hygiene courses, but was told I needed to complete a catering qualification (2 years). I also have D32 and was NVQ assessor many years ago but my indusrty knowledge is outdated. I am also confused as to which course to take, level 5, level 6, DELTA or DTLLS with Literacy? I am not sure whether to teach functional skills, ESOL or food hygiene, as who can tell which one will result in a job at the end? I am very confused, any advice would be greatly appreciated. PS, Sorry about any mistakes, its late and I cant find my glasses.
