I give up!!

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by s4mm13, Dec 8, 2011.

  1. I got a couple of emails through today letting me know that i haven't been shortlisted for the two jobs I had most recently applied for.
One of which was at a school in which I spent 18 months in the department, forming good relationships with their staff and students, i know their projects inside out, what they expect from staff! If i can't get a job with them, than I should just give up now.
Feel like Ive hit rock bottom in trying to find a full time, secure job.
    I give up!!

So sorry to hear this - don't know what I can say to help as I realise you must feel gutted at the moment.
If you need to talk things through with someone you could consider the teacher support network - phonelines are open all of the time - their website is:

Youre obviously gutted, but just think it's there loss at the end of the day!
It is really hard atm, as you can probably see from the amount of people on here trying to find permanent work, but you can't give up. YOU WILL GET THERE[IMG]!
    You can take a break,[IMG].
Tomorrow is another day[IMG]! Hope you feel better soon! xxx

Know it's no consolation to you, but last year I applied for a job at a school, which had a new Head, one for whom I'd previously worked and was my second referee! Didn't even get an interview! Made me feel the same way
if I couldn't even get an interview for someone whowas my second referee.(However I think there were other factors involved). Have now changed to a different second referee, just in case!

  6. I am absolutely gutted
I just don't know what else i can do.
Really at a loss as to where to go now.
    I feel rubbish

I can't suggest where to go but would you consider an 'alternative position' within education? In view of my many applications, my age and cost and our LA situation I'm looking at TA/HLTA whatever.
Please don't feel rubbish. I knowI feel the same and fortunately for me my husband reassures me everyday that I'm not. We must not let our employment ( or lack of it) define us as people.

  8. I'm so sorry for my rubbish attitude.
I'm so incredibly lucky to have my partner who is wonderful and makes me feel special every day. He just wishes he could do more to help.
I know i mustn't give up, but when i get knocked back time and time again, sometimes it is very difficult to pick myself back up again.
With the support from my partner and everyone here, I'm sure I'll dust myself off and give it all another go.
All i can say is thank you.

    I should think so too!
You most certainly have our support - and look at how Welshie has just got that job, despite being a regular Bag Of Nerves the moment you say "Interview".
So come on! Don't give in now!
    Best wishes

    Nope.
    Nope nope nope nope.
The problem is that there have been cuts in schools at a time when Teacher training institutions were allowed to increase the number of trainees.

  15. It's silly isn't it... We were led into it thinking that there would be jobs at the end and they're still enticing more and more new students to train.
I think I've had my sulk now. Going to suck it up, pull myself together and find new jobs to apply for.
Depending on the cost, I may even try and get some TES Professional advice.
Thanks eveyone for putting up with me!!

That's part of what this forum is useful for -as well as Theo's superb advice of course! We all understand, as many people outside education do not, just how tough it is as we're all in the same postition.

  17. Yes. It does not make you a better/ worse person than the next person. A rejection by any school is that- a rejection by that particular school at that particular moment in time. Try (know it's hard!) not to take it personally- the SMT won't be losing sleep over it!
Sometimes finding the 'dream' job takes longer than others- like finding the perfect partner some of us have to have a few heartbreaks, others love at first sight, other relationships one/ other partner grow out or move on- but all that pain doesn't stop us for looking for 'the one'!
Hold tight- there is a job out there with your name on it. [IMG] ...and get applying for another job!

  18. You are all so wonderful!
I'm ready to carry on now )
    Thank you so so much
    xx

Just seen your post on Career Clinic.
Probably not the best place to post that sort of query. You would be better off on: Supply Teachers and Pay & Conditions.
    Best wishes
