How to convince young children they really need to learn spreadsheets?

Discussion in 'Computing and ICT' started by Fleurie, May 26, 2011.

  1. Hi

I'm struggling with the above. I have to do a lesson with a wide range of abilities from 2a to low 7. It's easy with the brighter pupils, but what about the level 2a?

Any comments would be much appreciated.

not necessarily, one of my y6 classes clapped at the end of a lesson on spreadsheets, which was handy cos it was also a PM observation lesson - with the observer's own class.
OP if you PM or mail me with details of the experience your children have of spreadsheets I could send you some of my planning and prepared files

I'm not sure that children below key stage 3 really need to know spreadsheets. At that age I feel they should be honing their Maths skills so that when they do come to meet them at Key Stage 3 then at least the calculations make sense.
