How to become a Deputy Head?

Discussion in 'Professional development' started by mrstodd, Nov 13, 2011.

  1. I think you need experience of teaching in, or leading KS1 as well as experience in several more schools before applying for deputy headships. The masters won't add much/anything to your application (sorry, I am talking from experience of both applying and shortlisting) At the moment you're on the first tier of leadership. You'd probably want to get on to KS1 or KS2 leadership and either literacy or maths subject leadership before thinking about moving on.
  2. I too would like to become a deputy. I have taught for 7 years as a teacher and a year as a HLTA. I am key stage 2 leader, maths leader, DDSP and lead Mfl. I have created the maths sef, analysed data and I am on the SDT. Would I have enough experience to become a deputy or would a MPQSL help too? Thanks.
