How reliable is supply in London

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by lucky_pierre, Jan 24, 2011.

  1. Hello everyone! I'd be grateful for a bit of feedback if you can spare the time.

I'm in the process of applying for Design & Technology jobs in London for a September start. I'm considering moving to London soon-ish and was wondering about the availability and reliability of supply and are people making enough £££ to get by?

I cover Design and Technology, Art, ICT and have had plenty of experience on general supply.

I've been on supply up here in the Midlands since September, using just the one agency doing a mix of my specialisms and general cover. It hasn't been too bad work wise as I've been receiving excellent feedback from schools which eventually got me a whole term.

I've bookmarked various agencies such as IQ, tradewind, axcis, protocol, trusted education, just teachers, academics ltd, capital, itn mark, smart teachers and step teachers.

A friend who is doing a postgrad supplies part time using Axcis and Trade winds and seems to think there's more work if she needed it.

    Any info would be great!

I have signed on with all these agencies, but, so far, nothing has been forthcoming, either day-to-day or longer term.

I was silly and only registered with one agency Just Teachers as I have recently returned from overseas and needed a crb check carried out. They lost my form and lied to me about it, and in any case say that there is no work. I seriously recommend not using them.
Llikewise other agencies I have called have said there is little work aboutu for teachers as more and more schools are using cover supervisors instead.
