How much notice

My school are saying that Ofsted now only give 1 hour's notice of coming in. I thought it was still the day before (and as such if you got to Wednesday afternoon you were safe for the week).

    What is the general rule?

It varies for different types of inspections. It's still the previous afternoon for standard Section 5 inspections. 'No notice' inspections are exactly that (ie where there are serious concerns about one or more of the following: the breadth and balance of the curriculum; rapidly declining standards; safeguarding, including a decline in standards of pupils’ behaviour and the ability of staff to maintain discipline; and standards of leadership or governance.).

From this term there are the new Short Inspections. If you qualify for one of those - eg Good at last inspection - it might be shorter notice. The Handbook on the new shorter inspections doesn't say.
