How much French do you do?

Our MFL coordinator has just asked for samples of planning. To be honest, I haven't done any and am struggling to fit everything else in each week, so I am loathed to do any!
How much do you do? Should I bother?!! (Head didn't seem too concerned!)
Are we supposed to be teaching it legally or has it got lost in the new government? My class is Y3/4 btw.

  3. I rarely do it. I hate it. I never did French at school and am so lacking in confidence. I know a lot of teachers at my school neglect it. My class have picked up bits and bobs of German from me, like answering the register an' that... And we did our Xmas production in French... The planning my school uses for French calls for four 20 min sessions a week. Yeah, right.

MFL Sunderland has many mp3 sound files, available free, especially for non-specialist primary teachers - http://www.sunderlandschools.org/mfl-sunderland/resources-sound-files.htm We also have a series of podcasts which complement our KS2 scheme of work and which help you to work on pronunciation, phonics and intercultural understanding as well as methodology - http://www.sunderlandschools.org/mfl-sunderland/resources-pr-fr-podcasts.htm

  6. I don't teach any French. We have a Chinese lady covering PPA for KS2, and she teaches all of KS2 Mandarin in year groups.

  7. Thank you for the link Geekie, very kind of you to post it.
