How many maths and Literacy lessons does your school teach per week?

Discussion in 'Cymru - education news' started by DiscoBec, Sep 26, 2012.

  1. The children in our Foundation Phase currently have a maths and a Literacy focused task each day, which are both very adult led. One of the Literacy sessions in a week is a writing session based on a whole class text and the other four are Read Write Inc sessions. We also run Maths Makes Sense each day. However, we are finding that this means there are no opportunities for free flow play and child led learning all morning because both our Maths and Literacy are so prescriptive. We are thinking of reducing the number of sessions the children have of each of these areas of learning in order to allow more play based activities indoors and outdoors. Therefore, I'm wondering if anyone knows what the official quota of maths and literacy sessions for both Reception and Years 1 and 2 is. Advice urgently required if anyone knows! Thanks
