There is nothing in the article to suggest that the sentencing judge is unqualified.

Judge Usha Karu handed him a 12 months suspended sentence, despite telling the court he had 'deliberately targeted' his 'vulnerable' victim.

She said: 'This was a serious offence committed against Miss Noel who was only doing her public duty as a teacher at the school.

'You intended to assault her or to make life difficult for her in some way and you succeeded.'

I feel less safe at school after reading the article.
Deliberate assault apparently does not rate a custodial sentence?

Just the way the sentence didn't fit either the crime or the comments the judge made.

The article says towards the end that the man has previously undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia. If this is correct and he really is mentally ill, he needs help. The victim also needs help in recovering from this horrific attack.

Very convenient that diagnosis. Wonder whose idea it was...

And if it is true, then lock him up in a secure psychiatric unit until he's no longer a threat. Maybe 20 years or so.

The sentence appears to fit with the sentencing guidelines as given in the article. The judge cannot be impugned for this.

If someone assaulted a judge in the same way, do you honestly think they'd get such a pathetic punishment?

I'm going to surprise you and say yes.
