House Music - really does it have a place in the mainstream?

With summer in full swing, I seem to be continuously confronted by the invasive thump, thump boom, boom of house music. I decided to avoid nightclubs years ago but now it would seem that pubs and outdoor recreational areas believe this is the best medium to draw in the crowds. Even in what had previously been relaxing restaurants this seems to be the music of preference. Am I missing something? Does anyone over 30 have an appreciation for this style of music? Or break it to me gently - I am just old.

Not here, unless it is from the original 80's and on TV or something to remind me of some fun parties and club nights.

    I'd consider different eating venues.
