just wondering how schools organise house drama events? My school has a house system but we only ever do sport events, would really like to set up drama events but have been told I need to come up with ideas first - time needed, numbers, shows etc...

    All help gratefully received x

3 different schools in which I have worked, or at which I have colleagues run successful interhouse drama:
1 - sixth formers write a script on a given theme, maximum time 20 minutes, points for inclusion of all year groups, directed by pupils
2 - drama teacher supports each house selecting and cutting a play to 20 minutes, directed by pupils; junior and senior separately
    3 - evening of various categories - monologue/duologue/scripted group 10 mins max/devised group 10 mins max/poetry recital Age groups KS3, KS4, KS4
The latter is easiest to organise and prepare for

That's great, thank you. We are only a small independent school so I quite like the idea of using the sixth formers to write a play - we already hold a house dance and a house sing off so this might work.
    thanks again x

    Another idea:
Each house has to put together a drama presentation including:
    • A monologue
    • A duologue
    • Choral Verse
The presentation should have a time limit. They will need to produce a programme.

This may be simpler than a play? What are the logistics of three or four houses trying to use the stage/rehearsal space, wanting different staging or lighting requirements?
