I am a HLTA at my current school, I started cover supervising first before gaining my HLTA I have kept my communication open with HT and feel that currently it has been for the best. I also am doing my honours degree part time. I think any extra recognition is a positive especially with radical budget cuts the more you have under your belt the better.

This is an ancient thread, helenkev! I've been an HLTA for 10 years now and, although the role has changed beyond recognition from the early days, I love my role. I know I'm lucky - I have recognition, status and a reasonable salary; not all HLTAs are in the same position. But it was a great move for me and I would still advise anyone to 'give it a go'.
