History of GCSE D&T

    It came about when the NC combined the woodwork, metalwork, technical drawing, needlework and cookery into a cumbersome subject called Design and Texhnology. So I presume it was 2 years after the NC was introduced.

    I believe that the first GCSE exam for D & T was sat in the summer of 1995. My eldest daughter did her GCSEs that year and I remember her going through the whole thing along with practical assessments that had to be done for the end of KS3. The GCSE coursework was completed in two areas of technology; my daughter chose textiles and resistant materials i.e. a major and a minor project.
