historical events in the 21st century

  3. I think the election of the first black president in America is pretty major as is 9/11 and the wars in the Middle East. Things have been packed in pretty tightly in 11 years!
     
  4. Have to agree on 9/11.

    It is the biggest event so far of the 21st Century and it is tied to so many other events. The War in Afghanistan and Iraq. If you agree with Michael Moore it helped contribute to the economic crisis of 2008.

    How both the US and UK Government lied to the people over weapons of mass destruction, which has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Sure, Saddam was not a nice guy, but the simple fact is that our Democratically elected governments should not be allowed to get away with lying and deceiving people. Yeah, now people will say they have been doing it for years, but they dont usually get caught in such an obvious lie. Now that we know they lied, did anything change? No...So 9/11 had massive implications, but more often than not people just think about those that died in the twin towers, or those that died in the wars that followed. Very few have thought about what this meant for the idea of democracy.
