i am applying for a new job and have to give details of my current and previous employer as referees. The details for my current employer are fine. However, I have worked at my current school for 8 years and the headteacher at my previous school has retired. What should I do?

    .

Is there a Deputy still there? Find out if s/he would be willing to write a reference. Or an AHT or your HoD.

Mind you, an 8-year-old reference is hardly worth much, so they are being a bit daft in insisting on that.

    Best wishes

Thanks for your advice. I will try but, as you say, they won't really be able to comment on what I'm like as a teacher now.
