Help - The class gerbil has died, need funeral ideas

Discussion in 'PSHE' started by lornakett, Mar 3, 2012.

  1. Hi
I work in a PRU and run a nurture class, for the past 3 years we have had a pair of Gerbils, which the pupils look after and handle most days. After the class had left on Friday itchy passed away, and scratchy isn't looking too good.
I'd like to hold some sort of special assembly and then bury the gerbil, does anyone have any idea's or resources that would help.
  2. I would recommend asking the children how they would like to celebrate Itchy's life -they might have some good ideas. Maybe they could share memories of Itchy and how they felt/feel. Work together to put together a slideshow of memories -pictures and photos. Remember to explain how he/she died if known so that they don't think it was caused by their neglect/error.
  3. It'll be old age - I would imagine 3 is fairly old for a gerbil.
Good ideas though - perhaps a group poem?
