    Hey

I am a Humanities teacher at a new school and I've been asked to order the books/equipment for the new GCSEs that we will begin teaching in September. The issue I have is that I am a RE specialist and looking through all the new Geography specs and then trying to think what I will need is making my head spin.

Ive spoken to other schools and I think I am going to go with the AQA spec but I don't know is I need to order anything else apart from the GCSe text books, like what do students need for the field study aspect??

I know they will hire a new Geography teacher for September but we need to et our budgets etc in order this week so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Don't panic ! The AQA website has a link to the new text books. There are 3 suppliers Hodder, Oxford etc. There will however be two field-trips. Depending on the specialist this may be a residential . As long as you have a set of recent atlases you should be fine. You may wish to get geography skills book . hope this helps . You may want to budget for the field-trip though and i suggest that you put at least one of them in the school calendar for next year . Hope this helps !

I've seen some of the new textbooks suggested for the AQA course starting in Sept. They are all not very good and I would suggest using existing resources rather than wasting money. Your money would be best spent getting a class set (one between two) of a generic textbook that says it covers all specs and the new teacher can order exactly what they want once they're in post. The fieldtrips will be a massive expense and like phil1015 I suggest budgeting for cover, transport, accommodation and equipment now.
