HELP No RE Jobs for an NQT

Discussion in 'Religious Education' started by thegreenlantern, Jun 24, 2011.

  1. Hello Everyone,
I am a recently qualified RE Teacher and have been doing supply work for the last year. Is it just me or are any other NQT's finding it really really difficult to obtain their first NQT RE Post, there are hardly any posts advertised and the competition is huge.
The other problem I have is that I will soon no longer be able to continue supply work due to the restrictions on NQT's who must complete their induction training by a certain period otherwise they cannot continue Day to Day Supply Work
    Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated
    Thank You [IMG]

It's not great and I have been quite relieved that I'm not an NQT this year. A friend of mine has just finished her PGCE and she hasn't got a job yet, so you are not alone :(
  3. there's very little about. watch out for maternity leave supply. we would normally advertise for an nqt to cover for maternity leave, but though a colleague with go off in september or october, we aren't allowed to get anyone in yet. but when we do, it will be supply and it would be good to have a specialist who would stay the whole of the maternity leave!
  4. Thanks guys,
It certainly is a very difficult time to be an NQT looking for an RE post. Hopefully things will improve [IMG]
  5. I've just finished my PGCE and from my course only 5 out of 13 have managed to secure jobs including me :)() so you're definitely not alone. Since places have been cut on PGCE courses as well maybe things will improve soon. I'm tied to where I live so I'm not sure what to do yet!
  6. Keep up the job hunting, there seems to be quite a few maternity posts and temporary positions comming up......
  7. I've found it difficult this year as well. I've been teaching in the UK for over 4 years but just recently completed my RE Induction. 3 years ago I turned down 12 offers for interviews within 2 weeks after being hired for an R.E. position. At present I've put in over 30 applications for R.E. positions, and only had 3 job interviews, all of them unsuccessful. It's becoming quite difficult and I think because teaching has not been affected that much by the economic crisis that more and more people are jumping into it.
