Help a Newbie with Set Theory

Discussion in 'Mathematics' started by teecee1953, Dec 14, 2011.

  1. I'm about to re-commece my OU studies after 12 years absenec and the course this year covers Set Theory and Group Theory. I was born in 1953 and we were never taught these. I've been on YouTube and have picked up some basics, but have wasted lots of time searching blindly. I would be eternally grateful if someone could point me in the direction of useful free structured resources online. The OU will send me materials next year but I'm trying to stay ahead of the game and stave of panic.

my first thought was Khan Acadamy
    http://www.khanacademy.org/video/number-sets?playlist=Developmental+Math
    and
there is some good stuff on the mep sites in the KS3 books [yrs 7,8 & 9]

If that isn't enough to start from the very basics and should give you enough to google more productively.
If you are still struggling then get in touch.
    Good luck.

  3. Have you tried looking in a second-hand bookshop, or on ebay for books?

I've often received OU materials for Feb start before Christmas, or certainly soon after, so you may not have too long to wait.
    Which module?
