Just been out and was stunned to see a huge display of Halloween paraphernalia in the window of a Homesense branch.

Many years ago, Asda had an aisle of Christmas stuff at the beginning of September. I had a very excited toddler at the time who exclaimed ‘Father Christmas!’. I was so cross I phoned head office. It was suggested that l shop elsewhere in future. So I did. My son is now 21 and loves to tell people his mum is ‘banned from asda’ I wear it like a badge of pride.

Is Halloween likely to overshadow the misery of Brexit then?

No. Why would you think that?
