I am a final year student currently on placement in a year 4 class. Next week my teacher has asked me to plan guided reading for a group of children who are very low ability. The book she has chosen (on active learn) is for year 2 children, therefore follows year 2 objectives for reading. When planning, would I use these objectives (year 2) OR use year 4 reading comprehension objectives as this is the year they are in? Thanks x

Any book can follow whichever objectives you choose to use. Being LA they need the easier text, therefore the choice of what you class as a Yr 2 book, but you need to be extending their comprehension skills in line with their age so use comprehension questions in line with year 4.

if they are that low shouldn't they be on the BAND 2 curriculum?
