Guidance for SATs markers

    Please can anyone tell me if the guidance given to SATs markers is published, and if so when? It would help me decide whether to challenge some SATs results.

    As this is in Assessment, it may be worth pointing out that nobody marks SATs in the UK.

    It's been a good while since I marked NCTs but, yes, it was the case then that there were lots of notes dictated to add to the printed mark scheme.

    Certainly back when I did it for over ten years, there were no additional printed notes. You wrote the additional advice and decisions on your mark scheme at training. Sometimes it continued to evolve with additional decisions being made and passed on by phone, initially, then by email. The worst thing in the earlier days was a late decision meaning that you had to go back through all the bags of previously marked scripts to look for any changed decisions. Those were in the days before computer marking. I gave it up the year that began.
