GTP 2012 offers

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by shick26, Jan 30, 2012.

  1. Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else who has applied for GTP Primary courses across the UK had any offers yet?
I've had a conditional offer through from Nottingham Trent which im chuffed about! It's conditional however on the funding for 2012/2013, as the TDA funding has not been annonced as yet and therefore was seeing if anyone else is in the same boat?
Although its only a conditional offer i think its quite definite, if the number of places are similar to last year. Any ideas when the funding will be announced?
    Thanks

  2. Last year it was about Easter time.

    Good luck x

There is a lot of concern about exactly what will be announced it is very likely the funding for GTP will be reduced -in line with other ITT reductions- with the requirement for schools to have to fund more of the GTP. Last year the initial announcements were March but this current delay has the hallmark of a pending ministerial announcement

I'm applying for secondary and I also had what I thought was a fairly definite provisional offer. I had an interview and offer from Warwick before Christmas and barely 2 weeks later they emailed to tell me that the course is unlikely to run due to funding issues with the PGCE course. I have since applied to other providers and have heard nothing at all. It would be nice if they could at least interview or tell you a firm no because the waiting is driving me up the wall.
It seems that the word is that more training is going to be delivered in schools. Well the GTP is mostly delivered in school so I didn't think it would be affected so much

  5. My GTP interview was back in the middle of November 2011 and i heard 2 weeks ago about my offer to start in September. I know the waiting is the worst part! I've had my fair share of it as after applying last year for the GTP and being placed on the reserve list in February 2011, with the hope that i could get on, i didn't so im chuffed to have an offer this time round.

Michael Gove seems to want applicants to train more in school through an employment based route so fingers crossed the GTP will be ok for funding again this year. I look everyday on the DfE and TDA wesbite in hope we'll know soon!

  6. Sounds like we're all in the same position then which is good to know. My main concern was if anyone had received an unconditional but with all the uncertainty with funding i can see this is very doubtful.
If you've been placed on the reserve list that will be different to receiving a conditional offer so it'll be an even longer waiting game for you im afraid. I was informed February last year that i was on the reserve list so i kept my hopes up all year but then heard nothing, it was heartbraking. I'd try to be realistic if i was you, although at the same time you need to be positive.
    I hope we hear soon!!

  7. Gloucester ITEP has an announcement on their front page that funding will be the same for this year as it was for last - the formal announcement coming in the next 10 days. That's the first definitive news I've seen on the subject. http://www.gitep.co.uk/

Me too. The problem with Warwick is that it seems that their GTP courses are pegged to their PGCEs. If their PGCEs are cut and they decide not to run PGCE in certain subjects then the GTP in that subject gets cancelled too. That's what I understand anyway.
Great news that announcements are imminent and that GTP funding remains the same but for one or two of us, it may not help.
    AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

  9. I was offered my conditional place just before Christmas but all celebrations on hold until something definite is announced!
Have checked out the Gloucester ITEP website (doesn't say when that was posted though) but my provider still seems to have no news - fingers crossed for us all!!

  10. That's good to know that funding should be imminent. I know Michael Give announced EBITT funding and allocations on the 7th February last year so i'm sure it will be in the next week or so, or so i hope!

As far as im aware, training providers have been informed that they will not have as many GTP places as last year so with that in mind hopefully they've just offered conditional offers to those of us who are at the top of the priority list :)

  11. I've just had an email through from Nottingham Trent saying they have received their funding allocations, hence i know have an unconditional place for the GTP Primary starting in September 2012! Wahoo!
Good luck to everyone else! I'm sure you'll hear this week :)

  12. that's great news shick26 - hopefully the waiting will all soon be over......

  13. Yes it's definitely a big sigh of relief! Let me know how you get on Janet...fingers crossed!

  14. Hi all, heard on Friday that my place has been confirmed for September with West London Partnership - good luck to all of you that got your place and keep trying to those that didn't!

  15. Woohoo! That's great news! I can't wait to start :) What Key Stage are you specialising in?

  16. haven't quite decided yet, as I have worked in both key stages - tending towards KS2, though will take some advice from colleagues. How about you? (what does the the S stand for?) Jan

  17. I've worked in both key stages too but prefer Key Stage 2, so that's what i'm going to specialise in. Although, we'll still get a half-term placement in the other key stage (which we aren't focusing on) so that will be good.

    The 'S' stands for Sarah.

Where are you going to be doing the GTP?

    Sarah

  18. Damn right! Yep sure, I'm Sarah Hickling so feel free to add me :) It will be good to have contact with another GTP student!

  19. Hi,

I just found out that I have a place on the GTP with FIPC starting in September, really looking forward to it :)
