GTP 1 Minute Speech

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by lilmisscoops, Apr 23, 2012.

  1. Hi

I was wondering if anyone out there could advise me!! I have been shortlisted for an assessment day with the funding board for my local GTP scheme.
I have to make a 1 minute speech on the relevance of the curriculum and english, and why aspects of the curriculum are taught. Does anyone have any ideas.. not sure where to start!
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!
  2. Hi Thanks for your response.

I am applying for secondary English. I need to talk about 2 aspects of subject knowledge per se and demonstrate why aspects of it are taught in schools.

A minute seems such a short amount of time to be able to get a point across.. do you know what they mean by knowledge per se?

The task requires research and particularly your ideas about what should be taught in schools why? It also requires a knowledge of the current English curriculum and particularly the outside factors influencing it. Fundamentally what is education for?

I had to do the same last year! My advice, don't try to cram in too much information. Practice it. Memorise your speechlet. They just want to see that you can speak in a completely nerve-wracking situation in front of people. One minute only equates to about 3-4 sentences. Stay relaxed and speak at a normal pace. The activity itself is completely artificial, something they remind you on the day.
    Good luck!
