    Hi everyone,
I am a PGCE Sciece student who did only few
days of supply work before joining the course.I realised that the
agency I was registered with was trying to stop me from working with
other agencies. Some of them told me that he is not giving the reference
to them. Now I am looking for empoyment and the same agency is asking me
for my GTC number and promises to help.
Is it OK to give my GTC
number to them? Can they stop me approaching other agencies for work? Do
all agencies get information when you are registered with one of them.
Sorry for so many questions but I am totally confused and desperate for the job. This is almost the end of my course. Please help.
    Thanks

Any agency you work with should have your GTCE number. But given how this ones treated you do you really want to work with them? Post this on the supply forum.

  4. This agency is being most unprofessional. When you approach other agencies suggest to them that thy do not approach this agency for references and tell them why. Approach the heads, deputys or HOD's of the schools who know you and in which you have done well requesting that they give you a reference. Agencies are always on the lookout for good supply teachers and should be quite happy to accept references from other educational professionals like heads, deputys or HOD's.
There is, however no need to stop working for this agency due to their lack of professionalism provided they have an "in" with schools where you enjoy working and pay you promptly for your services. You will be, after all, "cutting off your nose to spite your face!"
