No as I'm retired and I don't think my hairdresser would have been interested!! :D :D :D

However, had I still been teaching, I'm sure I'd have given a few minutes to each class about Tim. I would also have told them that I was alive when the first man went into space-and the first dog and monkey!!

    Helen Sharman's advice?

Just heard her say he shouldn't forget to look out of the window. Well, that's ...... helpful.

Why is Helen Sharman not counted as Britain's first astronaut?

Lol! Well, considering she was the first Brit to travel to space 24 years ago, but now apparently doesn't count as the first 'official' UK astronaut, I think she deserves the opportunity to be a bit snarky ;)

Ground control to Miss Helen doesn't have the same ring.

Easy to understand why she's been left out.

Couldn't they have found someone called Tom? Really? Disappointing.

On the Stargazing Live show this morning the issue about why Major Tim is the first British person was addressed. Apparently previous astronauts had to take temporary/partial or full citizenship of another country because we weren't contributing money to the missions. It was more detailed than that but I've forgotten the rest.

Now, I'm sure this was mentioned, but I obviously wasn't listening properly. Was it to do with this one being part of the ESA, but Helen Sharman's one wasn't?

I watched the launch on the TV this morning and was suitably awestruck. They're so brave to do that, I couldn't do it.

The others had to take US citizenship. Helen Sharman went on Mir, I'm not sure if she had to take USSR citizenship.

That's ridiculous. I'd be slightly snarky too. She did the training, she did the launch, she came back safely. She deserves the accolade.

I watched the space shuttle disaster live on a children's TV programme when I was a kid. The presenters didn't know what to do when it broke up.

I was watching that live too. Such a horrifying event.

They would have been conscious until their oxygen ran out. I don't know how anybody could go into space after that.
