So the Chinese leader has made some comments about those who would seek to split China. The BBC report contains this:

Few observers believe China would repeat its 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy activists in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, for examples where hundreds are believed to have died.

This is delusional reporting. China will not allow this democracy stuff to go on forever. If these protests were happening on the Chinese mainland the troops would have been in long ago and many protesters would never be heard of again. The Chinese government fears that mainland Chinese will get ideas. There are already some protests sprouting up on the mainland, not in reaction to Hong Kong, but significant simply for their existence.

If 1.4 billion people get the idea that protests may lead to a better life, who is going to stop them all? You cant shoot or imprison 1.4 billion people so the Chinese government snuffs out all protests before they achieve a head of steam.

To be honest, I no longer trust the BBC

During the revolution in Egypt, they showed the same footage over and over while claiming it was live (different commentary). We sat in the bar at the club watching as, "Once again, the police are charging the peaceful demonstrators", while the sun was high up in the sky. At that point the sun had set about 2 hours previously

There were many similar "reports" from the BBC
