Graphics course?

I was wondering if anyone could help me out! I have recently become Head of Vocational Education and therefore whilst the day to day running of subjects is still with their retrospective departments I am overseeing the admin side etc for any voc course being run. The graphics course that we currently run in KS4 is the vcert as this fitted better with our learners that the old GCSE. However, we have a 3 year KS4 and with the recent publication of the 2019 tables we are in a bit of a panic (especially as the graphics teacher is currently on maternity leave).

I understand that NCFE have put in for approval a new tech award in graphics, but from looking around it seems (to me who is not a subject specialist) that there are no graphic qualifications available if this tech award is not approved or is there? What is everyone else doing about this subject? We have always had a healthy number of students within this subject so we would like to keep it running

I have always had a fabulous uptake for Graphics and have always taught AQA Graphic Products.
I am going to go with the new Technical Award from AQA in Visual Communication. As a Graphics teacher of 20 years it suits me better than any other course on offer!

Thank you - I think (as a non specialist) when I have been looking at what the other boards have put forward for approval its the different names being given to qualifications, i.e. not specially 'graphics' that I have not picked up on!

Has anyone got a list of what the other boards have submitted for approval? I really want to have a list of suggestions available for her rather whilst the teacher is off her group being disbanded

Hi there, I didnt think the AQA Technical Award Visual Communication had been approved yet?! We are really reluctant to do the AQA Product Design but if the Technical Awards are not approved its the only option we have.

I am responsible for V Cert qualifications at NCFE. I can confirm that both the Level 1 and Level 2 V Certs in Graphic Design have been submitted to the DfE for approval on the 2019 tables. We are currently awaiting approval confirmation and are confident that this will be received. We are, however, unable to advise on when the DfE will be publishing the updated list, but have been informed that there is due to be an update this month.

With regards to what qualifications have been submitted by other Awarding Organisations, unfortunately there is no collective list available. I would be more than happy to be able to discuss this with you in more detail if that helps. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line: lucythompson@ncfe.org.uk

Careful of Discount Codes meaning that qualifications may not garner marks.

after seeing a post on the Computer Science thread I called the DFE today and any updates to the 2019 performance tables is on hold until after the general election, but this does not mean that an updated list will be published on the 9th June or ever!

Could I ask one of your experts to help me out please! As I stated on the opening post, our graphics specialist is on maternity leave and I want to have options to give to SLT rather than have them panic and disband this group of year 9 students into other subjects whilst my colleague is not here to defend her group!

The only option I have come up with is that we run the Edexcel CiDA qualification (with full support from the IT department for the web product unit) and have the students follow the optional Artwork and Imaging unit (which is is worth 3/4 of the qualification. Would anyone be willing to have a look at the spec for me to see if it is suitable/appropriate for students who specifically chose a graphics course.

    Thank you in advance

I teach CIDA at the moment.
It is a nice course, but it has a heavy website design bias - as long as your team feel ok delivering this, and have access to ICT as needed (a lot!) - it is a good mix. 1/2 Graphics, and 1/2 ICT.

CIDA has a different discount code, and is accredited for Progress8 - so should be ok.

I am responsible for VCerts at NCFE and can provide you all with a little clarification on the current situation regarding publication of qualifications approved by the DfE. At present the latest publication is EMBARGOED until after the general election. However, following discussion with the DfE, we understand that they are exploring the potential to publish the update list before this date. As yet there is still no guidance as to when this may occur though.

Good afternoon all I have received our school NCFE Graphics results today for the external unit. Our students did not achieve the higher grades in this unit. I was wondering if anybody else had similar experiences?

the highest grade achieved for our lot was a Level 2 pass, however they are not the hardest working students...
