Each year, the British Science Association makes grants available to schools and organisations to help them put on events or activities for British Science Week. This isn't just for science teachers and can incorporate other subjects too, including arts, humanities, enterprise, careers, etc with cross curricula links being strongly encouraged.

In 2016, we will have a number of grant schemes available, providing small pots of funding from £200 to £700. These include Kick Start Grants for schools in challenging circumstances to organise their own events as part of British Science Week - with 2 categories:
    - Kick Start grant: up to £300 for your school to run an activity during BSW; or
    - Kick Start More grant: up to £700 for your school to host a science event or activity which involves your students and the local community

Grants may be used to fund a range of activities – from inviting a speaker to providing resources or organising a trip. For ideas, have a browse of the British Science Week resources, which contain lots of ideas for activities that different age groups might enjoy.

    Apply: via online form
    Deadline: 23rd November

I have been lucky enough to gain kick start grants for two years for my school. With this money the dept I am in have run a STEM week for year 7 and using the grant we managed to give every student who achieved the success criteria a bronze crest award. This is something which would never have been possible if it wasn't for this grant. If anyone is interested and wants a copy of the resources I use please feel free to message me it contains:
    1 powerpoint
Group student workbook (Which can be used as evidence for bronze crest)
Dragons den mark sheets (Each group needed to present their ideas to a group of people who marked groups based on engineering, communication and teamwork). Takes 8 lessons to do.

Thanks Rob for your helpful ideas and support for the grants. We at the BSA would be interested to see your resources too if you were happy to share them? The best contact would be crest@britishscienceassociation.org
