Government 'desperately slow' to respond to 'looming crisis' in FE funding, MPs warn

    As no-one else as responded .....
    The simple fact is that this report is itself almost a decade too late.
    Back then the crisis was looming. Now FE is doomed and all we have is the problem of disposing of the remains

    That's about the long and the short of it. In fact FE funding has been a problem longer than a decade I think. It hasn't had the long-standing nickname of 'the Cinderella sector' for nothing.

    What strikes me as most odd is that young adults have to stay in education or training until they're 17/18, the gvmt has been pushing apprenticeships as their new Great Thing but they don't fund the places these young adults are supposed to go to. That's not just short sighted but completely blind.

    The issue is far more serious than just funding and can't be dealt with in a short response on a forum, but somebody really needs to decide just what FE is really for rather than trying to juggle all things for all people. A funding settlement for a sector this wide is merely a symptom of the challenges the sector faces.
