Golden Hello?

Discussion in 'NQTs and new teachers' started by evilpixie, Jan 29, 2012.

  1. Hi,

I'm in my NQT year and someone has asked me if I've sent in my Golden Hello form yet. Am I supposed to do this during my NQT year of once I have finished the year in July?

  2. Hi Kim,
My understanding was that you applied in your last NQT term - having said that, i'm not sure if it has been scrapped or not?
Sorry i can't be more help!

After your final term if you are still in employment (the employment can be with a different school but not an independant one) x

You can't apply in your NQT year as you don't know that you will pass it and be able to continue teaching in the following school year!
You apply when you are in a post lasting a term or more during the 12 months after completing Induction.
  5. Thanks ...
Just one other question - I'm on contract so technically unemployeed at the end of the academic year. Will I have to wait until I have a job to apply then?

Yes. Fingers crossed you have better luck than I did finding another post. My golden hello is now a distance dream... x

Yes. The GH is paid as an incentive to keep those who pass Induction in the State education system. The proviso is that you get the GH if you work for at least a term in the 12 months following passing Induction.
You therefore need to apply as soon as you start a new contract, whether that be permanent or short-term.
They will only pay the GH if you are still on the payroll, so getting a one term appointment, or staying just a term in a permanent job, will not result in receiving the GH if you delay putting in the application and have already left and had your last monthly salary paymnet by the time the GH forms are verified.
If vacancies are scarce, I'd advise contacting the LA advisor for your specialism and asking to be kept informed about any Maternity covers etc that they hear about.
You could also send your CV to schools, giving your availability for short term or long term work.
  8. I'm ICT and yes jobs are very scarce! In fact the job I got was only 1 of 2 jobs I could really apply for when on my 1st contract. This place is a whole lot nicer so I hope I get to stay as they will still need a teacher in Sept as I replace another NQT who was signed off sick then quit!
